Set the stage: Imagine entering the outer gates of a stunning castle, heading to see the king. Keep walking, finally you arrive at the door. You stand there, momentarily unsure of yourself and why and how you’re even there. Suddenly the stone-faced doorman opens the door and you are caught off guard. In front of you lies an exquisite room – decked out in only the highest quality furniture, artwork framed in gold, the most expensive jewels and velvet, and there before you sits the king.
Now, take a fresh perspective. Imagine that when you enter in to prayer you have been welcomed by the King of Kings (1 Tim. 6:15), the Most High God.
…He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords…
– 1 Timothy 6:15 ESV
He is welcoming you in, for an audience with Him (Heb. 4:16).
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:16 ESV
Wow! At times this nearly makes my heart burst and I break down in tears. He, the King of Kings considers me worthy of His time and my request worth hearing.
This is why it’s so important to give Him praise! He alone is worthy, He who created the world and knows you so intimately, He alone deserves your adoration above all!
Late last year, during an interview, words about entering the throne room came out of my mouth. For the past several weeks I’ve pondered them, rolled them around in my mind and heart, but kept fairly quiet. This past Tuesday evening during a Bible Study I had the chance to voice this picture to a small group of ladies. We all sat for a moment drinking in this picture.
This friends, this is how I’ve started to view my prayer time with God. I see it as a time of true worship and reverence. It’s also a time where I have the incredible opportunity to lay my requests and those of others at His feet, in front of Him, in THE Throne Room.
Why is it then, that when we have the privilege for an audience with THE King of Kings that we often pick back up our request before we leave? Do we not think that He can handle it? Or do we think that we (somehow) can handle it better?
My simple charge to you is when you worship, confess, thank Him, and request His help… leave it with Him. Don’t grab your request back and run out of the room. Trust your petitions with our awesome Heavenly Father who is worthy of ALL of our honor and glory!
